  • What is a Public Biometric Device (Previously L0)?
    • A Public Device (Previously L0) is a biometric device that does not require Aadhaar RD (Registered Device) services. It is generally used for non-Aadhaar applications like attendance systems, access control, banking (non-AUA/KUA transactions), or internal authentication.
  • How is it different from an Aadhaar RD Service Device (L1)?
    • Public Device (Previously L0): Does not need RD Service subscription or renewal. Works directly with applications (non-Aadhaar) that integrate its SDK/API.
    • RD Service Device (L1): Mandatory for Aadhaar authentication/e-KYC and requires an active RD Service subscription.
  • Do I need to purchase an RD Service subscription for Public Device (Previously L0)?
    • No, RD Service is not required. The device works with its default drivers/software provided by IDEMIA to its registered customers.
  • Where can I use a Public Biometric Device (Previously L0)?
    • • Employee attendance (non-Aadhaar based)

  • How do I install and use the device?
    • • Install the driver/software provided by IDEMIA to their registered customers.
    • • Connect the device to your computer via USB.
    • • Verify device detection in Device Manager (Windows).
    • • Use the application software/utility to capture fingerprints.
  • How can I find a Public Device (Previously L0) device’s serial number?
    • Method-1:
    • On Windows: Open the Device Manager [devmgmt.msc] → Universal Serial Bus Controllers or Ports.
    • • Find your L0 device in the list (e.g. “MorphoSmart CBM” or “MorphoSmart MSO1300 E3”).
    • • Right-click on the device name “MorphoSmart CBM” or “MorphoSmart MSO1300 E3” → Properties.
    • • Click on Properties
    • • In the Properties window, go to the Details tab and select Device Instance Path from the Property drop-down.

    • • In the Properties window, go to the Event tab.
    • • device serial number (P/N-S/N) will be shown under value/information section.
    • Method-2:
    • • On Device Body: The serial number (S/N) is imprinted on the back or bottom of the device.
  • Do these devices support both Windows and Android?
    • Yes, public biometric devices support both. Please ensure you have the correct drivers/apps installed for the respective platform.
  • What should I do if the device is not detected?
    • • Check the USB connection and port.
    • • Ensure drivers are correctly installed.
    • • Try on another system/device to verify.
    • • Contact support if the issue persists.
  • Can this device (Public Device) be upgraded to an Aadhaar-compliant RD Service device (L1)?
    • No, Public Devices (Previously L0) cannot be converted to RD-compliant (L1) devices. For Aadhaar-related use cases, you must purchase an L1 RD Service device.
